The original Fu Bricks
The birthplace of Fu Brick is the Jing-Yang (泾阳) area of the Shan-Xi (陕西) province. It is believed the first record of Fu Tea was at the turn of millennium and Fu Brick was established as a fixed product at aroun 600+ years ago. Due to the insufficient supply of the local tea crops (Mao Cha), Hei Cha crops harvested from Hu-Nan (湖南) started being imported to Shan-Xi for the Fu tea production.
Today's Fu Brick production
Today, Fu Bricks are produced in both of the regions with many similarities:
- Fu bircks' production is labour intense. There are as many as 29 steps to process the Fu Bricks with strict seasonal and climate conditions.
- The well known Jin-Hua (金花) of Fu Brick is a health beneficial bacteria (Eurotium cristatum). Certain compounds extracted from the bacteria and Fu Bricks have been know to actively reduce blood cholesterol and sugar levels - the very reason that Hei Cha forms a big part of the diet in areas where the plants/vegetables are in short supply.
- Like all other Hei Cha, Fu Bricks' quality (flavour, texture & medicinal functions etc) increases with age.
